Accordant Health Services, A Caremark Company, Awarded Disease Management Contract By Federal Employee Plan
NASHVILLE, Tenn. and GREENSBORO, N.C.; June 7, 2006 - Accordant Health Services, a Caremark company, today announced it has been awarded a multiyear contract by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Service Benefit Plan, also known as the Federal Employee Plan, to provide disease and case management services to plan participants with chronic, complicated medical conditions. The Federal Employee Plan covers more than four million federal employees, retirees and dependents.
The Accordant program will provide nurse case managers to work individually with FEP participants and their physicians to address the unique health care needs associated with such high-cost, complex conditions as Gaucher disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and scleroderma.
These specially trained nurses help coordinate care for a designated group of plan participants, enabling Accordant staff to develop positive interactive relationships with physicians and their patients. Accordant nurses, available by telephone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, answer questions and assist in:
In addition, participants will receive newsletters with information specific to their illness and have access to an interactive, nurse-staffed Web site that can respond to questions.
"FEP recognizes the value of specialized support to plan participants affected by these progressive, chronic diseases," said Thomas Frosheiser, Accordant vice president and general manager. "Our proven intervention strategies focus on communication and knowledge-sharing among program participants, caregivers, physicians and plan sponsors to create positive relationships that lead to improved outcomes and quality of life."
